.Transformers: Dark of the Moon Soundtrack Review. This is a review of the film score Transformers: Dark of the Moon by Steve Jablonsky.“The cheesy popcorn factor is very high and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”In the latest Transformers film, the Autobots learn of a Cybertronian spacecraft hidden on the Moon. It holds powerful secrets and both Decepticons and Autobots want it badly. Michael Bay returns as director, while Shia LeBeouf continues his adventures as Sam Witwicky. Megan Fox is replaced by model/actor Rose Huntington-Whiteley.

It’s Our Fight.15. I’m Just The Messenger.16. I Promise.17. Our Final Hope. The Transformers series of scores is fast becoming Steve Jablonsky’s legacy to the film music world.

He creates a lot of different music (like The Sims), but his contributions will be judged based on the Transformers scores. The films themselves are huge and Transformers is such a worldwide phenomenon so naturally the scores comes with some heavy baggage.I was recently listening to Vince DiCola score to the animated movie Transformers from 1986 and boy has music changed since then. As brilliant as DiCola’s score was, it couldn’t have worked with Michael Bay’s vision. The first Tranformers score Jablonsky did was full of grand themes, while the second one was full of action. A lot of expectations for the third score in the series and I have to say Jablonsky doesn’t disappoints. Like A MixIt’s a brand new score that doesn’t sound so hardcore like Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The feeling of it is a bit like a mix between score number 1 and number 2.

The first half of the score is a buildup to the awesome second half. The first half is quite good, but I felt disappointed after listening to a bunch of cues but not getting too excited. It all changes with the fantastic cue ‘Battle’. This is where it all begins for me. The fun and mayhem of the last two scores return in glorious fashion.

The rhythm and melody of it is damn near perfect for a battle cue. Funny how it reminds me of the Clint Mansell cue ‘Lux Aeterna’ because of the string section, but to be fair, that is also a hell of a cue.

I love the choir bits in there as well that flows with the melody. There’s nothing really new in Jablonsky’s latest offering, but it has the same feel and fun of the previous Transformers score which is why I rate them so highly. More often than not, I am listening to dull scores with nothing of interest, but this is just entertainment at it’s best.Even some of the old themes are back like in the cues like ‘There is no Plan’. It’s always welcome to hear the great themes from the previous scores. ConclusionLike the previous Transformers score, the cheesy popcorn factor is very high and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I won’t say that this score is better than the previous scores, but it’s definitely up there.

If it is the last Transformers score, it ends on a high. Steve Jablonsky, Michael Bay and Transformers are a perfect fit and I really hope they continue their fruitful relationship long into the future.
