Prior to purchasing, I used the hand held ONE+ belt sander for this application. What used to take me at least 2-3 hours, now takes me 45 minutes or less.
On days where we are producing 5,6,7+ sets this little machine is a huge time savor, and one of the best investments I made to the shop. I have had this unit for a little over a year, and have run it for hours at a time with no breaks, and it is still going strong. Unbelievable quality, fantastic price, the only complaint I have is in the belt that it comes with. Mine was chewed up pretty quickly. The unit is being used at a boat repair yard. The only repair require is replace the drive belt which is easy to do. We use it frequently from sharpening tools, smoothing engine parts, sanding wood or fiberglass parts. We use a lot of power tools. This unit has outlasted all other tools. Hopefully the latest model has the same durability as mine.
I also own cordless impact drivers, saws, side grinder and drills. The drill chocks need to be improved. Rated 5 out of5 byJakobe fromDecent power & qaulity. Perfect for DIY projects I have owned this for about 6 months and have found it indispensable for small sanding and grinding projects around the garage. I recently made a ATV rack tray out of some 1/4 aluminum diamond plate I had leftover from another project.
Once it was cut the edges needed to be smoothed.The Ryboi sander was perfect to hone down the sharp edges. The adjustable belt on top was perfect for getting just the right angle I needed since the tray had many irregular curves.
The unit has enough power for me and my small DIY projects. I am impressed. I'm a novice woodworker, making ukulele's and associated tools, and this is the perfect sander - cost effective, belt and disc operation, benchtop size, does a great job. And I'm making a 'tool' to fit under the Belt drive to use as a Thickness Sander of sorts. I'm very happy with this sander as I am with all the Ryobi products that I have purchased. Very rugged, easy to assemble and adjust, comes complete with all accessories. Bought Diablo replacement sanding belts and discs but surprisingly haven’t needed them yet, as the factory belt and disc has held up well and performs satisfactorily. Unit is much quieter than competing brands. Unit allows for vertical as well as horizontal sanding with belt.

All belt sanders will stall if too much pressure is applied, but this one is very torquey and stall resistant, despite its relatively low speed, as it seems to be geared more for torque, just like Ryobi’s chainsaws. I also prefer the control that the speed allows. If you use a light, steady, patient touch, your results will be excellent. Unit is pretty heavy for it’s size, which is one of the reasons vibration is minimal. All in all, an excellent and useful addition to any home or light industrial shop.
